Low-Flying Pelican, Dropped Cell Phone To Blame, Man Says

LA MARQUE, Texas -- A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston, Texas.
The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.
The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.
Gilchrist said he doesn't know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, "Salt water isn't good for anything." He says the man, whose identity hasn't been released, was not injured.
A 2006 Bugatti Veyron was recently offered for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., for $1.25 million.

Here's a link to the video of it going in. What are the odds of someone catching this on video?
And no sign of the "pelican that distracted" him.

And being pulled out.

My thoughts were this poor car dosent deserve this. Also blaming an animal isnt right either since we all know it was the dropped cell phone . The jerk shouldnt have been driving while on the phone!
I know this is going to sound harsh but I think if he tries to make a claim for this his insurance should deny him because after all it was HIS fault.

Couldn't agree more. If he had hit someone head-on in the oncoming lane it would most certainly be his fault.

More money than brains.

The title of this should have been "Dumb ass drives Bugatti into marsh."

Didnt know Bugati made a water car. well he now has a built in live well for fishing.

Knowing that part of texas, I have visited there from time to time passing through from houston to galveston.
What a numbnut. He shouldn't have been given the primary key, much less the second one.

Jack
Odds are slim to none! Guess it was karma because I didn't see a pelican fly by!

Maybe the car heard the people in the truck say "Pretty sure that a Lambo." And it was just to much for the poor Bugatti to take. Then "drove" it to commit suicide.
