March 18th, 2010 It may be a surprise to some folks who don't follow model change information from year to year but the 2011 Dodge Challenger will have a new 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine under the hood. The new 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine was confirmed last year by Ram Trucks chief Fred Diaz during Chrysler's business plan presentation. The engine was originally suppose to make it's way into the Ram Trucks and the SRT models but plans have changed. It seems Chrysler is going in a different direction as PickupTrucks.com is reporting the engine will be for SRT models only. This according to Joe Veltri, Chrysler vice president of product planning who says he would love to have the 6.4-liter engine in the Ram trucks but explains it's designed for performance, not low-end torque. Veltri goes on to say they have talked to the powertrain guys who say it's a struggle to recrank the engine to make it a truck engine. Looks like the SRT models will have the new 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine all to themselves. Source: PickupTrucks.com
