GHOST complete wood trim install - coming

2410 Views 21 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  GHOSTDANCE
I pulled the trigger and am replacing my Irish Burl trim with a 100 + piece custom Newport Burl trim kit.

This time I am going to do a full install pic post here with all of the tricks I have learned putting trim kits in

The kit (THANKS JUSTIN AT Carid) will be here in about another week

remember the installation is the EXACT same for the carbon fiber/ solid insert/stainless steel trim kits

Will look forward to the install pics.
Will the old pieces be a problem removing?
believe it or not - the answer is no. I just use 30lb test fishing line with 3-4 knots in it - slip it under the edge of the piece and saw back and forth - the residue (foam and glue) that is left - you just soak with some citrus based non solvent cleaner - then scrape off. To prep for the new part - you wipe the area down with PREP-SOL - wipe off before fully dry - and then wipe with denatured rubbing alcohol (using a Qtip for the edges. The black plastic you treat like that is a dull gray. Slap on a little adhesion promoter and install new part. :D
I know that is going to take some work, I plan on doing something like this when the funds get better, but with using a blue carbon fiber finish. I found a kit that sells for about $165. Just have it on my to do sometime list.

and tell him you are from the forum - pps - that is the same style of kit I will post the install on :)
Can you give a preview of these "trick" that you have learned. I just received my orange dash kit from CARiD a couple of days ago and was going to attempt the install this weekend. But if you have some tried and true tricks, I'm gonna wait to see what they are. Looking forward to the video.

Hey where are the pics you promised :waiting:?
waiting on two OEM switches (for radio bezel - where the heat seat switches are) to arrive - will use those for fogs and neons - have to put in first to get exact fit - then will post :)

no worries, JK.
I'm jazzed to see the finished product.
It may be the decider on whether I get my own kit.

OH and no one is giving me sugar, I just had six bowls of cinnamon toast crunch...
POWDERED TOAST MAAAAAAAAN!
LOL BTW got a medic coin sent from the Israeli Defense Force for GHOST - looks NEAT!!!!
What is this stuff anyway? Is it a really thin plastic? How does it work?
it is a thin veneer of material (wood, carbon fiber, solid color, etc) that is laminated with a clear plastic

here is a link to the basic kit - click on the multicolored square for material samples

I have been looking at this kit for quite some time. Ghost's photos look as good as the ones on the site. Also, the customer reviews are overwhelmingly positive. I think I'm sold on this, now if I could only decide on a color/theme. I've been wrestling with that ever since I bought my car-I don't know what color to choose to customize the interior...
just a PERSONAL opinion (like a-holes, EVERYBODY has one :))

I prefer the woods and the carbon fibers and the metals. I have installed one solid color kit in orange and seen several (red and blue) and i just don't like the look of the solid colors - they look like cheap plastic add-ons when installed
