Oil Filter Change

When I first got my car back in March of 2009, the first thing I checked was what K&N filter it would take. On thier site it listed the HP-2010 oil filter. Even at work at the Zone we had the 2010 listed as the oil filter. Now K&N has made a change. They now list the HP-1017 filter. Of course we don't stock that one and anytime we have to place an order we don't get anything of a discount for it. Would it still be safe to use the HP2010 filter? we have tons of those and this filter is the same one that my wife's 07 Mustang V6 uses too.

any suggestions?

If u use '08 and up Charger 3.5, u get the same number as our cars. Mopar changed the threads on 08 ups so 07 down won't work. I've allways run Bosch myself, but anything is an improvement to that dinky little mopar filter for our engines! Got one of those, but I never used it cause it's the same size as the one on my 2000 twincam Harley!
i'm using the larger Mopar filter. see it compared to the smaller one.

I can understand that you guys use Mopar filters, but I am using K&N with mine using valvoline synpower oil. have been ever since I bought the car, the thing is the change in oil filter numbers. when I first bought the car all catalogs said that the 2010 filter was the one for the 09 Challenger SE with the 3.5, now they are saying the 1017 filter is the one.
is there a difference with the two?

plus I am wondering why the number change.
I am not sure of a size change as the K&N was bigger than the stock filter the guy took off of it on my first oil change.
I've had two oil changes on my R/T in only 4200kms....i can't say for sure as I've never had the "belly`` pan off..But, they tell me the all the filters are interchangable between the motors...the SRT having a greater capacity (larger)....and that is the one installed in my 5.7...I`ll have to check when she`s out of hibernation, and at this rate (no snow, salt ) might be sooner than I thought....Keep informed..Steve.

here is the answer I got from K&N this afternoon.........

Thanks for contacting K&N. The K&N HP-1017 and HP-2010 are essentially the same filter beside the size difference. Although we recommend HP-1017 for the Challenger 3.5L , you will have no issues with the HP-2010 since you have been using it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for writing,

George Hsieh

so since we still stock the 2010 filter I am going to stick with it.
Just had my first oil change this AM. 2315 miles on it and went with valvoline full synthetic and a K&N filter.
First time using synthetic for me in any vehicle.
I really want to take care of this car as I told my wife someday it will go to my son when I go to meet God.
She said, Hey what if I want to keep it? LOL
