I just got rid of the suction cup mount and cord hanging down.

I used a BlendMount. They only make them for Escort, Beltronic, and Valentine One detectors though. So I ordered one for a Escort Passport 9500ix (since they show that on one on their site and looked like it could be made to work).

Sure enough. A little time with the dremel and it works like it was made for a Cobra detector. (yeah yeah, a Cobra isn't a Valentine One but I've had this one for 3 years and have never even been pulled over with it. Was pulled over in a dealer loaner when my car, and detector, was in for service though)

In the before and after shots, you can see where I trimmed down the mount where it slides into the detector.

It's certainly one of the most expensive. And many people will say it's the best, and all the rest are junk.... blah blah. :?:

I'm happy with mine.

Cobra here also, but still suctioned behind eyebrow, hard wired up and around/behind a-pillar and roof liner. Like ur mount, but would interfear with my fuzzy dice/g-force in turn indicaters! Nicely done Dave!

Well, it figures. I get it all mounted nice, and now the speaker is blown or went bad. First just the voice announce was all garbled, but now even the normal alerts are barely audible.

Did a search and found that a lot of people are having the same issue just after the warranty is up. Seems the heat gets to the speaker.

About the only option is to call Cobra at 773-889-3087 and pay about $9 including shipping for a new speaker - or use the external jack for an external speaker. I ordered the speaker.

The best detector out there is the Passport 1900ix. With it's GPS it is the smartest and quietest detector on the market. You can either mark the door opener of the local grocery store, or the 3rd time you pass it, the detector does it itself. But, if a "barney" is sitting in that same parking lot, you will betect him. When I travel between Shreveport and Natchitoches, the troopers like to hide in these little coves in the middle of I-49. When you pick them up, you can mark their location by hitting a button. The next time you come through, it will alarm one mile of either direction and show on the display flashing "speed trap".
Talk about mounting, it comes with a 2 succer mount, or for $20 you can get a 1 succer mount, that with one leaver switrch, hercules can't pull off with both hands.
Valentines pick up EVERYTHING and the FARTHEST away from EVERY direction. But do you want that?

I to have the cobra, it has already paid for itself. Was it difficult to plug into the mirror? I don't think I have the skills to alter the holder but I wouldn't mind losing the curly cord. If it is easy enough... I do have an auto dimming mirror but i never checked the back of it...hmmmm do you think it would work with the original holder?
Sure will. Speedy's site gives a very good how-to on how to do it. The hardest part is probably the soldering... but if you know how, the whole thing is easy.

P.S. I've got a new detector since this install. It's also a Cobra so it was as easy as unplugging the old and plugging in the new. And yeah, it pays for itself a couple times a month. lol

I too never liked the suction cup mount. I have a Beltronics STI. I fabricated my own mount from thick PVC. Using a heat gun to mold the PVC into the shape I wanted. I chose to do a driver's side visor mount using Velcro to attach the unit to the mount. This is higher up on the windshield than the mirror mount but it has always picked up the Po-Po. I just couldn't vision the mirror mount being out of the way visually. So I went with the visor mount and hardwired it into the mirror. I then extracted the electronics from the RD's remote power cable and installed them into the overhead consol. It gives me the option to "Mute" the unit from a small button instead of pushing on the RD it's self. The only trouble I have had is the thing gets extremely hot after a whole day in the parking lot. So the adhesive on the Velcro has to be beefed up to handle high temps. I'll try to get some pics.

Sportboss425, especially useful around the Mansfield exit on 49? They should just put up a toll booth.
